Friday Flashback 11/8/13

Happy Friday my foodie friends! Rain has again returned to my little corner of Western Washington. The fabulous Summer we had is now a faint memory. The leaves on the trees have turned gold and red, and many have fallen. Winter is knocking at the door already. Snow has even made an appearance in the higher elevations.

I am torn. Last year was a very mild Winter. We barely had any snow, and none that really hung around more than a day. So I have a feeling that this Winter is going to hit us HARD. I am not looking forward to an icy deck and driveway.

Shoot I have a hard enough time not falling down my driveway in good weather!

In my defense, I do have a very steep driveway.

But, living in the woods like we do in our new place....

......this is the view from my living room window. I can't help but have images of snow covered branches and a blanket of white covering the ground.

So maybe I can have my Winter Wonderland in the backyard with nice clear weather in the front?

Ya, I won't be holding my breath on that one, but it would be nice!

Whatever happens weather wise, I know I am in for a nice long soup season, as usual.

I get so excited when Fall comes around again because I can break out my soup pot and dutch oven and indulge in one of my biggest obsessions. Soup! Or stew, or chowder, or even chili!!

All foods slurpable...........heaven!

  1. I think you might be right with a really bad winter this year. I am sure not looking forward to it either. I hope you post your soup recipes. I haven't tried your white chicken chili, but maybe tomorrow I will.

  5. Rain is better than snow I always say. The year before last we had a mild winter and barely saw any snow here in Boston, but last year we MORE than made up for it. We had feet of snow on the ground here at one point. Yes, feet.

    1. That is what I am afraid of here! We have had a couple of winters since I have lived here that had a TON of snow and were in the 20's for about 3 months straight!

  6. My favourite dish for a cold day is a cheesy risotto, or a homemade soup (my current fav is butternut squash soup, yum yum). A family favourite for cold weather is a pasta bake with extra-garlicy garlic bread.
