Ally's Kitchen - A Passport for Adventurous Palates

Before I begin to tell you about this book, let me first talk with you a bit about Ally. I "met" ally about 4 years ago. Now when I say "met" Ally I mean we stumbled upon each other in the food bloggy world. I was so new, and sooooo lost. I had no confidence, and really no sense of who I was in the terms of what my blogger "voice" was. Ally kind of took me under her wing. She was so supportive, and so kind. She showed me that food and cooking were not just a means of feeding your friends and family. They were a way to celebrate! Celebrate flavors, and textures. Celebrate the sharing of good food and the time spent with loved ones. She truly is a very special woman and I hope to really meet her someday!

OK, enough gushing right? Let's get on to the book, and OhhhEmmmGeee people, the book!! Now, I collect cookbooks, but I have never been much on "coffee table" books. I used to clean houses when I was young and they seriously annoyed me, mainly because it was just one more thing I had to dust, but because I just didn't get having a book just hanging out on a table, all by itself, doing nothing.

Then I got a bit older, and had kids, and knew there was no way I could have a book out on a table unless I wanted the kids to decorate it with their own version of art!

Fast forward to and now. I am at that stage of wanting things clean. I want everything put away, no clutter, no mess, no anything. Untilllll this book arrived in the mail. Snce then it has been either on my kitchen counter, or - get this -  on.my.coffee.table. No joke! I can't help it, it is GORGGGGG-E-OUSSSS!! I just want to grab a cool drink and sit on a blanket in the sunshine with Ally. All while nibbling on her fabulous food and enjoying a wonderful conversation about all of the amazing places she has been.

The writing is gorgeous, and the stories make you wish you were right there with Ally.

Droolworthy photos will make you hungry, so bring your appetite!

Now, coming up with a dish to make for y'all (I am channeling my inner Ally there) was tough. I seriously want to make everything! Like right now. Let's have a party and eat until we pop!! From every single "Boholicious" sauce and spice, to European flavors, the stunning Mediterranean, middle eastern allure, exploring exotic Asia, Caribbean island eats, and side trip escapades, each page called to me more and more. But I have always wanted to go to the Mediterranean, so that where I went! As soon as I read the recipe for White Tuscan Beans with Eggplant I knew that was the one. Its flavors and rustic charm just called to my taste buds, and my heart.

OK, right about now I would show you a gorgeous photo of my completed dish, but my camera had other ideas. Mainly it decided not to work! Normally that would not be a problem, I would tinker with the camera and take more photos, but the entire family was here and as soon as they tasted the dish bowls and spoons were flying. Before I knew it the food, and the photo op, was all gone. So, let me just tell you that the entire family loved it and have requested I continue to make Ally's dishes for our family dinners. I think that is a ringing endorsement if there ever was one.
