Big thanks to Gallo Family Vineyards for sponsoring this post.

Aaahhhh Labor Day.

How I looked forward to it when my kids were young.

Because it meant they were finally going back to school!

OK, I am just kidding, sort of. But it was a holiday we looked forward to. We lived in San Diego for most of their childhood (mine as well) and it was a huge day to BBQ at the beach. The weather was perfect during that time of year, not too hot, not too cool. We would pack my car full of food, drinks, beach toys, and sunblock, and away we would go. Mind you, you had to leave pretttty dang early if you wanted to find a prime parking spot. Otherwise you were hoofin' it with a ton of food, beach equipment, and kids, and trust me, especially when they were younger, that was zero fun!

Zucchini Fritters with Bacon and Cheese

Zucchini Fritters with Bacon and Cheese - Fresh grated zucchini fried up crisp with crumbled bacon, cheese, and green onion. The perfect side for any breakfast or brunch.

Zucchini Fritters with Bacon and Cheese from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

How is your garden growing?

Mine was a little slow going at first, but now I am getting fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and summer squash, everyday! It is so much fun. But now I am trying to use them in different ways. You can only eat so much roasted, grilled, and sauteed zucchini before that starts to get *yawn* ho hum.

I have been scouring the interwebs, and Pinterest, for ideas, and have found quite a few interesting ones. There is a squash blossom soup that looks pretty tasty, some tarts, bruschetta, etc....so those will be happening soon. YUM!!

But, for today, I wanted to bring you my latest contribution to our weekend breakfast/brunch nomage.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stock

Slow Cooker Chicken Stock - Making chicken stock at home is so easy, you will never have to use store bought stock again!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stock from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Ahhhhhh the temps have finally begun to normalize here in Western Washington, thank goodness!

It has kind of been a bit of "Be careful what you wish for" summer here.

After a drizzly, cold, gray, winter, I was begging for non-stop sunshine. "If we could only have a real summer".

  1. I guess I should have clarified what a "real summer" was.
  2. By non-stop sunshine, I didn't mean zero rain for weeks on end. Although I do see where that could have been misunderstood. So my bad to my fellow Washingtonians, I should have been more clear on that request.
It really has been almost 2 months since we have had any measurable rainfall. They are actually calling this a drought, and saying that we need to start conserving water! Holy crap! I thought I left that all behind when I moved out of California!!

Vietnamese Flank Steak #SundaySupper

Vietnamese Flank Steak - This recipe has a bit of everything, sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. All perfectly balanced to make this one amazing Asian inspired grilled steak.

Vietnamese Flank Steak from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Haaaaaaaaaaaaappy Sunday Guys and Dolls! How are things in your neck of the woods?

Things here are awesome, like serious awesome sauce! My granddaughter (aka G-baby) is growing like crazy, and seems to do something cute every single day. Just when I think she can't get any cuter she proves me wrong....again......and again! Sorry if I am gushing, but I just can't seem to help it!!

You know what else is awesome sauce? You guessed it, this damn steak! Like holy shizzz awesome gang! It's marinade is sooooo simple, but it adds such a wonderful flavor to plain old boring flank steak .

Sorry flank steak, no insult meant, but come on now, ya know you are never gonna be a fillet!

Asian Rainbow Noodle Salad

Asian Rainbow Noodle Salad - They say you should eat the rainbow and you do just that with this delicious Asian inspired noodle salad.

Asian Rainbow Noodle Salad from www.bobbiskozykitchen

Howdy doody foodie peeps

Can you believe I am actually bringing you a salad? I mean I have like what? Maybe 5 on the blog? Ya, I think I have been neglecting the whole leafy green side of things a bit. But, to be honest, salad around here usually ends up being some baby arugula or baby spinach, with whatever leftover veggies I have in the fridge chopped up on top, and then a simple dijon or balsamic vinaigrette. *Yawn* borrrrrrring!

Strawberries and Crème Mini Cake

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duncan Hines. All opinions are 100% mine.

Strawberries and Cream Cake - This cute little cake is easy to make, and the perfect size for 2 to 4 people.

Strawberries and Crème Mini Cake from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Raise your hand if you like cake. Come on, get 'em up there people. I know mine is wavin' in the air right now. I love, lovelove cake! But I hate to make them because it is just the two of us, and you know what that means? It means I am tempted to eat waaaaaay too much cake with the excuse of "Well I didn't want it to go to waste". Ya, that is always a great excuse right? The problem is, do you want it to go to waste? Or do you want it to go to waist? Haha see that little pun there? Ya, I am a dork.

What I am trying to say is cake for 2 is awesome. Cake for 10 is dangerous. I don't want to feel guilty after I eat my cake, I want to feel happy. I mean, I have cake in my tummy for goodness sake, let's celebrate! And that is just what I did with this adorable little Strawberries and Crème Cake from Duncan Hines. Yaaaaayyy cake!!

Turkey Sandwich with Zucchini Hummus and Grilled Peppers

A big thanks to Foster Farms for sponsoring this post.

You all know that I am a big fan of all things veggie. I live for the springtime so I can plant my garden, and take pictures of the growing goodies like they were my babies. This year I am going to give fall gardening a shot. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will have some yummy fresh broccoli, cabbage, and squash to nosh on late in the year. There will hopefully be a whole new veggie family photo array for you to take a gander at.

Once I have those gorgeous veggies in hand, I don't want to throw them into just any recipe. I am always looking for ways to really let them shine. For the most part we really love to grill or roast them. It just adds that little oomph to the flavor.

Zummus (Zucchini Hummus)

Zummus (Zucchini Hummus) - Taking hummus to the next level with garden fresh grilled zucchini.

Zummus (Zucchini Hummus) from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

If you haven't noticed, I really like hummus! I mean like reallllllllly like it.

There is my Roasted Jalapeño HummusRoasted Red Pepper and Garlic Hummus, and Avocado Hummus AKA Guacammus, although I can't eat the latter anymore since I developed that annoying allergy to avocado *insert grumpy red faced emoji here*

So I am always on the prowl for ideas to pop into my food processor to make a new flavor. Once I make it, I usually slather it all over everything, and have been know to just dive right in fingers first to get that last little bit that is hanging on to the side of the container.

What?

Well you can't waste it!!

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars - Bursting with real fruit flavor, these frozen fruit bars have quickly become my favorite sweet treat!

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars From www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

I don't usually buy fruit bars from the store. Maybe it is because I have become so incredibly disappointed, or maybe it is because I read the ingredients list and wonder what half of them are! It is probably a little of both. So when I got the opportunity to the Fruttare Frozen Fruit Bars I immediately checked out the ingredients list. Holy cow people! There is real fruit in there! And a lot of it.

Ok, so my sweet tooth urged me to give them a try, and I was happy that I did. To be honest with you, it was really hard to choose which flavor I wanted to buy because they have so many, there are 9 different flavors, and they all sound delicious. They have:
  • Strawberry
  • Mango
  • Coconut and Milk
  • Black Cherry
  • Banana and Milk
  • Pineapple
  • Lime
  • Strawberry and Milk
  • Mixed Berry and Milk
I love the fact that they use fruit from places we know, like California, and they use sustainably farmed strawberries, coconuts, bananas, and limesWhich means all of them are packed full of fresh fruit flavor, and taste amazing.

How do I know this? Welllllll ummmmm, let's just say I consumed quite a few of them. I had to do it. How else would I be able to tell you about them?

Yup, that's my story and I am stickin' to it!

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars From www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars From www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

I decided to share the mango ones with you today. Mangos have been calling my name lately. Maybe it is the tropical like heat we are having in Western Washington (at least it seems tropical to us). I am also craving a white sand beach with crystal blue water. If I think real hard about them do you think I will get whisked away to one?

Fruttare Mango Frozen Fruit Bars From www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

OK, I won't hold my breath on that one.

What I can do, until I find my tropical paradise hideaway, is consume mass quantities of these delicious frozen fruit bars. So pardon me while I inhale eat a few of these babies,

I might share a couple with Kevin if he is a good boy!

Howdy foodie peeps! Did you know that September is the National Family Meals Month? Sharing meals with my kiddos and Kevin is very important to me but eating together as a family is something that is difficult to do sometimes, with the family going here there and everywhere due to busy schedules, but I try to get us all together at the table for meals as much as possible.

I love those times together. Everyone talking, laughing, sharing things that are going on in their lives. I think that is the thing I miss most about the kids growing up. Now there are girlfriends, work, and tons of other interests that take them away. Some people might think it is strange, but my kids really are my best friends.

Spinach and Pistachio Pesto #SundaySupper

Spinach and Pistachio Pesto - Tender baby spinach, with toasted pistachios, makes one of the best pestos you will ever taste!

Spinach and Pistachio Pesto from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

It is so hard to believe that we need to start thinking about saving our summer's bounty of fruits, veggies, and herbs, but the reality is if I don't plan ahead I end up missing the boat and tons of goodies go to waste. So when August hits I am wracking my brain, and making a game plan for how I am going to make sure we can nosh on the fruits (or in my case veggies) of our labor AKA our garden.

Mixed Berry Frozen Yogurt Popsicles

Mixed Berry Frozen Yogurt Popsicles - One of the best, and tastiest, ways to cool down in this summer heat!

Mixed Berry Frozen Yogurt Popsicles from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Hooooo lleeeeeee cow is is HOT! I mean like Death Valley hot!

It has cooled down a teensy bit over the last couple of days, but the weather man said to not get happy about it because it is just a small reprieve. So we have been stocking up on our fave foods to beat the heat.

Of course all of the cooking gets done on the grill, because who wants to heat up the house? But I have been a busy bee, coming up with some cool sides to go with whatever you are cooking up (stay tuned for an AH-MAZING Asian Noodle Salad).

Speaking of the grill, poor Kevin has gotten stuck with the job of standing in the sun to cook all of our dinners. Hey, don't feel too bad for him, he is the one that claimed the grill as "his" area. But with the temps being in the 90's, something had to be done about that whole situation. Otherwise I was going to find him melted into a puddle in front of the grill! So I give to you our hillbilly cook shack.....

Roasted Jalapeño Hummus #SundaySupper

Roasted Jalapeño Hummus from www.bobbiskozykitchen.com

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I am bringing you my latest obsession. Well, I am kinda obessed with hummus period, but this particular one is at the top of my play list and my fridge hasn't been minus it for more than a day over the last month. Ya, I am that obssesed. Soooo when I found out Sunday Supper was throwing a virtual pool party this week I knew I had to bring this for everyone.

I sure wish we were having a real pool party. The temps have been in the 90's for quite some time now in Western Washington, and us Pacific Northwesters are not used to that at all! None of us have air conditioning, who needs it here? So when it gets this hot, I mean like OhhEmmGeee have we arrived in hell hot, we have no idea what to do with ourselves.

We have taken to the living room, with a fan, and all of the blinds drawn. I feel like a mole. A big, hot, sweaty, mole! UGH!
