POOF! It's 2015!!

WOWZERS! It be 2015 my friends!

Helloooooooooooooooooo, it is 2015!

How in the heck did that happen so fast? I feel like I blinked and zinggggg 2014 is gone! If I close my eyes it is all a blur of all of the haps of the year. I mean I seriously just got used to writing 2014 on my checks! I know that makes me sound a bit ummmm "slow" (be nice here gang), but in my defense,

I write 1 check a month,

to my landlord,

and I have a hard time remembering his name.

ADD people, remember, ADD!

Leftover Turkey Pockets

These creamy little pockets of heaven make leftover turkey my favorite meal ever!

I love the holidays so much that I am one of the many people that tend to go through a little bit of after holiday blues. The decorations, the parties, the fun and festivities? Oh why can't they just go on all year long? But I guess we wouldn't appreciate them as much if they did right? So one of my consolations is that I get to eat leftovers. I don't know if anyone else gets quite as excited as I do about them. I look forward to sandwiches, soups, chowders, and salads. All of it makes my little heart go pity pat.

Dulce de Leche Rice Krispy Treats #SundaySupper

These decadent Dulce de Leche Rice Krispy Treats are the perfect way to satisfy one last sweet craving for the year. I warn you though, it will be hard not to crave them next year too!

This week's Sunday Supper is all about those end of the year cravings. You know, that little something that you have just been dying for? Maybe you have wanted some rich creamy pasta dish, or elegant seafood? Whatever it is, let go and indulge yourself. You deserve it, and we won't tell!

The end of the year is my time to just let go and have fun. All of my calorie counting goes right out the window. I pretty much avoid sugar all year long. I might make a treat here and there, but Kevin or my kids are my intended targets so I can dodge that calorie bullet. They aren't real happy with how that works out once they see the scale, but up until then it seems everyone is happy with the arrangement. Now my son and his fiance are expecting, so sweet treats are very welcome, so I know where they will be going for the next several months!! Although my son is already complaining a bit about his "baby weight".

Honey Mustard Roasted Turkey Breast

Moist, succulent turkey with a glaze made zippy with the use of horseradish. It is addictive, I warn you!

Merry Christmas Eve my friends!! Today is the day of the big dinner in my family. Well, we actually have a couple days of eating, but it all starts today. We will start it off with cheese and meat platters, dips, cheese balls, chips, sliced baguette, and a lot of wine. The kids get here early and we watch a few holiday movies while everything is cooking away. We gather around the tree and each take turns opening a gift. Then there is the family photo in front of the tree, which always ends up crazy. Just check out a couple of the past years photos!

Slow Cooker Holiday Ham

Oh boy is my slow cooker getting a work out this year! I have been determined to come up with more recipes to use it for. Especially being a food blogger, I am game for anything that takes some work off of me and helps relieve some stress. Why did I not focus on this before? Ok, so I am a little slow, but I get there! My only issue now is, I wish I had more slow cookers! HA! It used to be the one I have would gather dust in the pantry most of the year. Ya, I would drag it out in the winter a few times to make soup or a roast (same old boring stuff), but now I am making Mashed Potatoes, and Creamed Corn, Pumpkin Butter, and even Dulce de Leche!

Vanilla Chai Fudge

This is quite possibly the creamiest, dreamiest fudge you will ever taste!

Aaahhh my darling foodies. Are you tired of sweet treats yet? Wait, did I really just ask that question? Is is possible to get tired of Christmas goodies? No nevvvaaahhhh!! I will gladly eat until I put myself into a sugar coma! I mean c'mon, if I am going to deny myself all year long, I deserve a month of going completely cookie/candy crazy. Am I right? I am right!

Cranberry Macadamia White Chocolate Fudge

This is the perfect holiday fudge with its chewy dried cranberries, and crunch macadamia nuts, all held together with creamy white chocolate fudge. Ohhh yes folks, this is a must make!

Well, here we are my friends. Christmas is a week away, and I am not even close to being ready. Where the heck does the time go?? They say times goes fast as we get older but holy crap, I think I am getting whiplash! I still have shopping to do, gifts to wrap, and believe it or not I still haven't finished decorating my dining room!! I know, Santa may revoke my honorary elf card!

Slow Cooker Dulce de Leche

This Slow Cooker Dulce de Leche is so ridiculously simple but soooooo amazingly good! Don't blame me if you want to eat the whole jar!!

Have you gotten to the point that candy, cookies, and fudge are now their own food group? I have realized that the reason I rarely eat sweets through the year is that I eat a butt ton of them in December!! I would be hard pressed to think of a day in the last couple of weeks that I have not consumed some form of holiday treataliciousness. I keep telling myself that it doesn't really count because I never eat a full serving, just a nibble to taste test here and there. However, when you are making 6 different sweet treats in one day.......ya those nibbles add up fast!! I have been avoiding my bathroom scale (I used to weigh every morning) so much that it left me a note that said "Was it something I said?"! No no my dear scale, it was something(s) I devoured ate!

Make Ahead Chipotle Breakfast Casserole

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias

Make Ahead Chipotle Breakfast Casserole - is not only easy to make for a holiday party, it's smoky chipotle flavor is sure to wake up everyone's taste buds and say #SeasonedGreetings!

I love this time of year!

Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and finally New Year’s Eve.

For as long as I can remember, it has been huge in my family. I remembering spending the holidays with friends, family, and mountains of food as far as the eye could see. After my kids were born, I began to pass these traditions down to them. Over the holidays our home was always packed full of our loved ones, and of course as much food as they could bring themselves to eat, which was a lot gang! But I love it.

One ongoing tradition that began, after my kids were born, is the Christmas brunch. I have always been in charge of it, and I love coming up with new recipes to keep the family’s taste buds tantalized. A favorite dish of mine to serve is the make ahead breakfast casserole. They are so easy to make, and you can personalize them with whatever ingredients your family enjoys. My family really loves my holiday brunch party recipes like Make Ahead Waffle Casserole, Make Ahead Ham and Cheese Breakfast Casserole, and Make Ahead Sausage Breakfast Casserole, just to name a few. There would, of course, be other food served along with the casserole. But the casserole always seemed to steal the show.

Hot Buttered Rum Balls #SundaySupper

These aren't your Grandma's rum balls. With hot buttered rum mix, and spiced rum, these babies sing Falalalala la la la la!

The holiday's have some awesome traditional adult drinks. Eggnog being the most notable with it's bourbon, rum, or brandy, but there are plenty more that evoke the Christmas Spirit (bad pun I know). How about a Hot Toddy with it's lemony whisky kick? Or, my sweeties fave, Hot Buttered Rum?

Meatballs with Red Wine Marinara and Cheesy Herbed Polenta

Meatballs with Red Wine Marinara and Cheesy Herbed Polenta - Juicy meatballs smothered in luscious red wine marinara nestled in a rich creamy bed of cheesy herbed polenta.....heaven in a bowl!!

We are smack in the middle of the Christmas season and I am flat on my back on the sofa. Why you ask? Well, that is a darn good question! I guess I am going to plead old age? It seems that, ever since I turned 50, my body has found the need to notify me that certain parts of my body exist. LOUDLY!

On this fabulous occasion it is my back, which has been yelling at me to pay attention to it for the last day and a half. It is just about as annoying as a whiny toddler yelling, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy. Lookie meeeeee"!  I know my back is there, there is no need to remind me, but it has chosen to remind me anyway. So I am seriously coming to you live (well, previously recorded) from my sofa. Thank God for laptops or I wouldn't be getting any work done. However I am on muscle relaxers, so I can not be held accountable if I start to randomly babble about tacos. I have been watching Food Network and the advertisement for the new show with Aaron Sanchez keeps running. It is called "Taco Time" and every time I see it my stomach starts to growl very very insistently.

Things this time of the year are complete chaos at my house. Decorating, shopping, wrapping, shopping, entertaining, shopping, baking, oh and the blog *whew* I feel like I am spinning out of control sometimes. It seems like no matter how under control I have everything, something pops up and screams "Wait, what about me"! As much as I love this time of year, and believe you me I luuuuvvvvvvvs this time of year, it just seems like it is all a blur and then *poof* it is gone. A far cry from being a kid and feeling like it took forevvvvvvvvvvvvver for Christmas to get here.

Bacon Wrapped BBQ Cheeseburger Meatloaf

Nothing beats a big ol' slice of meatloaf on a cold winter day, except maybe a big ol' slice of meatloaf stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon!

So Thanksgiving has come and gone, and visions of sugar cookies are dancing in my head. Shopping, and wrapping, and baking are all being crammed into my schedule, along with the other things I need to do for the blog. I honestly think that once December hits, I don't sleep again until after the New Year. I always say this is my favorite time of the year, but it is the most tiring time of the year too.

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

I do! As soon as the leftovers are gone I am sad and want to do it again.

2014 Holiday Gift Guide for the Foodies in Your Life

I have a a LOT of people ask me what they should buy for their favorite foodie this year. So I decided to put together a list of my favorite kitchen gear. I own all of the following items and use them all of the time. I honestly couldn't live (OK that is dramatic)....cook, without them.

Le Creuset
I bought a Le Creucet 5-1/2-Quart Round French (Dutch) Oven years ago and have been in love with it ever since. It is my go-to soup pot and works perfect for braising roasts and chickens. I have had mine for 8 years and it is just like brand new! I have several other Le Creucet pieces on my wish list this year so if you have an in with Santa, send him to my Pinterest!!

Cast Iron Skillet and Grill Pan
If you told me years ago that I would be one of those people that said "I can't live without my cast iron skillet" I would have laughed. When I lived in the south everyone raved about them and cooked just about everything in them. I was a non-stick kinda girl then and thought they were all crazy. Now? Oh there really isn't anything that can compete with the sear you get in a cast iron skillet, or the perfection of grilling indoors on a cast iron grill pan!

Cuisinart Immersion Blender
Just like my Le Creuset pot, this Cuisinart immersion blender is a must have in my kitchen. I am a soup junkie and this terrific little tool makes blending creamy soups soooooo easy. No more burning my self, or making a huge mess transfering soup to a blender. Just grab the immersion blender and buzzzzzzzzz it to creamy goodness!!

Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker
This year my slow cooker has already been getting quite the workout! I love nothing more that being able to set it and forget it. Then I am off to get a million other things done. Even though there is only two of us, I love making full recipes so I can freeze some for later meals. It makes using my slow cooker a win/win all the way around. We are getting this for one of our son's and his girlfriend for Christmas sshhhhh don't tell!

OXO Salad Spinner
What can I say about this salad spinner? It is a life saver!! I use so many greens and before I got this I had issues with wilting and *gag* sliminess even though I would wash and dry them as best I could. Once this salad spinner came into my life? I could give a relaxed sigh of relief because I was no longer wasting my herbs and greens!

Silpat Baking Mats
Now that I have begun to bake a LOT more, I discovered Silpat baking mats and OhhhEmmmGeeee where have they been all of my life? No sticking, no mess.....aahhhh I can relax and bake. I love it...and them!! They are a must have if you do ANY baking!

Core Bamboo Cutting Boards
Cutting boards are such an essential piece of kitchen equipment and this 3 piece cutting board set is all I need. Several sizes to choose from, and the ability to have more than one cutting station as I cook? Makes my life so much easier. Plus these bad boys are super sturdy, the will last forever!

Wine Bottle Stoppers
Do you have a wine lover to buy for this Christmas? My kids know how much I love wine AND Christmas, so they bought me these Holiday Wine Bottle Stoppers. Soooo ding dang cute. I love them! Keeps any leftover wine from going bad. If you prefer a non-holiday style you can grab a set of these for your wino errrr wine lover.

OXO Mixing Bowl Set
Another thing I have had for several years, this set of mixing bowls. I love the rubber bottom because it keeps clumsy my from sliding the bowl all over the counter (or off the counter completely), plus they are dishwasher safe. 8 years later, they are still good as new!

Silicone Untensil Set
Another Le Creuset item that I absolutely adore is this Silicone 7-Piece Utensil Set. I can't tell you how many rubber spatulas I went through before I got this set. I am not a hand washing kinda girl, so they would dry out, crack, and break. Plus my sauce brush...well it was a hairy mess BLEK! Now that I have this set I am baking, BBQing, and scooping away! I ❤ it!

Well, I hope I have been helpful in your quest to find the perfect gift for the foodie in your life. I can guarantee they would be happy with any of these wonderful products. Oh, and remember to tell Santa to check out my wish list on Pinterest OK?

Cookie Butter Puppy Chow #SundaySupper #GiftsFromTheKitchen

This week Sunday Supper is showing you how you can make the holidays extra special by creating some wonderful gifts from your kitchen.

One of the things I love to do at the holidays is make homemade gifts for my friends and family. I have gotten my kids involved in it with me going back to when they were little bitty. I always had them make homemade cards and gifts because I just felt they were more personal and helped them to realize that you don't have to spend money to make someone happy. To this day I treasure each and every little treasure they made me, and many of the ornaments they made still decorate my Christmas tree every year.

Slow Cooker Pumpkin Butter

I am a big fruit butter fiend. I mean like I could eat tons and tons of it! If it is a choice between jelly or jam, and fruit butter? Well, that really isn't a choice. I grew up eating my PB & J's with apple butter. Which I guess would technically make it a PB & B right? I would mix it into my oatmeal, smear it on my toast, and have even been known to top my ice cream with it. Yes, I will put it in/on just about anything to get my fruit butter fix!!

Cheesy Jalapeno Potato Cakes #SundaySupper

Put some zippity in your leftover mashed potato do-dah with these Cheesy Jalapeno Potato Cakes. Have them for breakfast with some salsa and a fried egg, or as a dinner side with sour cream and chives. Then make sure to check out the other fabulous leftover ideas from the Sunday Supper crew!

Today's Sunday Supper is hosted by the wonderful Jennie of The Messy Baker, and is about all things leftover. You know when your fridge is still stuffed with Thanksgiving goodies, and you just can't look at one more turkey sandwich? Wait, is that possible? Could there really be too many leftover turkey sandwiches? Hhmmm I think not, but there are always other terrific ways to enjoy those tasty leftovers and we are here to show them to you.

Bacon, Leek, and Artichoke Bread Pudding

I have really been enjoying the fall this year. Not that I hate the fall usually but, being a So Cal girl transplanted to the Pacific Northwest, when the days get gray and drizzly, the temps dive, and the sun is gone by 5 PM, it can kind of wear on a girl. Day dreams of warm sand between my toes and ocean waves crashing fill my head, and my mood can kind of falter.

But the last couple of years have been different. I don't know if it is because I am finally acclimating (It has only taken me 6 years!), or maybe it is my little deer herd that have adopted us as family and show up several times a day to peer into the windows hoping for some treats. I don't know. All I do know is that I have been in the best of moods (with a few detours thanks to the flu and allergies) and look forward to each and every day. WOW, I am starting to sound like one of those perky people that have a perpetual smile and are constantly saying "Have a nice day"? Ya, those are the people that I usually want to smack right about now! Maybe the aliens came and I am actually a pod person and not really me at all? AHH!

Creamy Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Silky smooth mashed potatoes with the hint of garlic made stress free by use of your slow cooker.

It seems that every year I start cooking Thanksgiving dishes earlier and earlier. A lot of it is because I obviously need to have dishes to share with you here on the blog. Some of it is because with the blending of families and dinners being held at other peoples homes rather than mine, I need to plan a few get togethers to make sure we get to see all of our kids and family over the holiday. But honestly, I think the main reason is because I just, well, I just love Thanksgiving food!

She writes about food, life (you have got to check out her post about the time a dress broke her nose), DIY fun, and binge watching her favorite TV shows (I can totally relate since I watched 6 seasons of True Blood in a week when I had the flu). She is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and lives in NC with her "semi" newlywed hubby and 3 of the cutest cats ever! Don't belive me? Check out her Instagram for pics that will make you say "Aaawwwwww".

31 Recipes for Thanksgiving

Quick and Easy Dinner Rolls

These rolls are super simple! Trust me, you will have hot fluffy rolls on the table for dinner in no time flat!

Ever since the weather cooled and the leaves began to turn, I have been obsessed with baking. ME! The non-baker! Go figure. I seem to have been possessed by the spirit of Betty Crocker or something. It has been very strange. But whenever I start to think about what I want to get into the kitchen and make my mind goes to things like Pumpkin Cream Cheese MuffinsMini Pumpkin Hand Pies, and Pumpkin Bubble Bread with Cream Cheese Glaze. Well, it seems I have been a bit pumpkin obsessed as well, but that is another story.

White Wine Turkey Brine

White Wine Turkey Brine - With white wine, spices, herbs, and citrus, this is seriously the BEST brine for your holiday turkey.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

These little guys are the perfect bite of pumpkiny goodness coupled with the tang of  a cheesecake like center. It is like your mouth gets all happy with the moist pumpkin bread texture, and then BAM cheesecake!

So by now you aren't not surprised to see another pumpkin recipe on the blog. I don't have to go through the whole "'Tis the season" or "it is the perfect fall food", blah blah blah. I am addicted to punkin, there I said it! I just can't seem to get enough of it. I will come up with a recipe to make and, no sooner than I can get that one done, I am on to the next one. I barely give myself an opportunity to enjoy the treat I just made. Oh, I have it bad folks, I may need a pumpkinvention!

Beef and Mushroom Pot Pie #SundaySupper with @GalloFamily

This week the Sunday Supper family is coming together with the Gallo Family Vineyards to celebrate comfort. Both in the foods we eat, and helping those in need

Compensation was provided by Gallo Family Vineyards via Sunday Supper, LLC. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of Gallo Family Vineyards.

When I think of fall, images of sitting by a crackling fire sipping cups of hot cocoa on a cool drizzly day, pots of soup, stew, or chowder simmering on the stove, and spending time with family and friends come to mind. In other words it is a time of comfort, pure and simple.

I can remember spending fall and winter nights at my grandparent’s house. We lived in Reno, and would get snow quite often, sometimes as early as October. On those chilly days, my grandmother would head to the kitchen and whip up some of the best soups and stews I have ever had. The smells that wafted through the house were insanely good and my little taste buds were anticipating, what I knew would be, a fantastic meal that would include her famous home baked bread. Ahhh my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Poblano Chicken

This Poblano Chicken is a wonderful weeknight meal for the family. Juicy chicken breast surrounded by a creamy flavorful sauce with just enough spice.

With the holidays fast approaching I have been stuck in pumpkin mode. Yes, my fall addiction, pumpkin. Oh, and pasta. Things that scream comfort to me and make me feel all warm and cuddly. What can I say, food makes me happy. Give me a big bowl of pasta like my Lightened-Up Fettuccini Alfredo or Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, my sofa, and a movie, and I am tickled pink! Forget the gray, damp Washington days, I have a big bowl of happiness. Yes!!

Honey Mustard Pork Chops with Rosemary and Garlic

I have been so focused on soups and pumpkin lately. In my defense, ummm helloooooo 'tis the season. Please, someone tell Kevin that! Just wait until cookie season starts Oy! Kevin will have a kitten. Well actually he will have a fistful of cookies, but he has kinda gotten used to have sweet treats around the house (all pumpkin favored mind you) so the complaining might be minimal. That is until he finds out that I have been baking all day so dinner will consist of sandwiches, and possibly reheated soup. Perfect for me, not so much for him.

Mini Pumpkin Hand Pies

A favorite holiday treat in a tasty little portable form. Grab it and go!!

WOWZERS! For those of you that read errrr saw this post when it first published, you saw that there was zero, zip, nada written up. This tells you how crazy things have been in my life. I totally thought I had completely finish it up so I scheduled it to publish. Patting myself on the back because I was actually getting things done ahead of time instead of last minute as usual. Ppfffttttt way to go brainiac! Sheesh!! Like I have said, on multiple occasions, I need a keeper. Note keeper, bookkeeper , zoo keeper.....anything AAHHHHH!!

Lightened-Up Fettuccine Alfredo #SundaySupper

Ahhhh the holidays are upon us my foodie friends. Time for family, fun, and food (lots of it!), oh and sweatshirts and yoga pants!! By the time New Years Day rolls around my jeans and I are no longer on speaking terms. So this week the Sunday Supper family is bringing you a plethora (oohh lookie me with the fancy words) of lightened up recipes for some of your favorite dishes. So grab that skinny latte and settle in for some tasty guilt free grub!

BLT Mac and Cheese

This week has ended with a bang! Yesterday I found out that I am going to be a Grandmother for the first time!! I am over the moon happy and finding myself kicking into Grandma mode already. I have to stop myself from calling my son's fiance everyday to see how she is feeling, and if she has any food cravings that I can satisfy for her. I have already been scouring the internet for cute baby clothes, and picking through patterns for baby afghans to crotchet. Visions of cradling my baby boy's baby in my arms have me on the verge of tears multiple times a day.

Pumpkin Bubble Bread with Cream Cheese Glaze

I am really enjoying the start of fall. Yes, it has been raining just about everyday for the last week (I do live in Washington), but I have had a fire going in my fireplace, my favorite afghan and fleece jammies have been broken out, and the smell of pumpkin has been filling my kitchen.

I have no idea why I only cook with pumpkin in the fall. I mean canned pumpkin is available year round right? But I guess it is just that pumpkin and fall go hand in hand. It would seem a little strange to have pumpkin pie in the middle of the summer. Although far be it from me to judge. Lord knows I let my freak flag fly quite high!

Vampire Kiss Martini (Recipe Revisit)

With Halloween almost here I find myself getting more and more excited. I am seriously a big kid and love everything about it. I love to decorate the whole house and watching scary movies. When the kids were living with us it was more about coming up with foods and costumes that fit the chosen theme. A couple of years ago I made Goblin (Deviled) Eggs for our Ghouls and Goblins themed night. Everyone loved them, and they disappeared like a prom queen in a slasher movie.
