So many people that are new to the low carb lifestyle ask me about meal planning.

I get emails asking how to prepare dinners that their carb-loving family members will enjoy all of the time and I get it. It can be hard, especially after a long day at work, to come up with a meal that can satisfy everyone's wants and needs.

One of my favorite ways to do that is with spice blends, rubs, and marinades like Homemade Mexican Spice Blend Recipe, Homemade Tandoori Seasoning Blend, Low Carb Barbecue Dry Rub, and these 5 Easy Low Carb Marinade Recipes for Chicken
.
Unfortunately, store-bought versions can contain hidden carbs. Or, ingredients that no one can even pronounce.

That is why I love to create my own spice blends.

It is literally bing, bang, boom, flavor in and dinner is done!

I can't tell you how much of a lifesaver spice blends have been when I forget to plan ahead.

Have some chicken, pork, steaks, seafood, or even ground beef in the fridge? It is even a great way to jazz up veggies.

Spice away and cook it up.

OK, SO WHAT IS CAJUN SEASONING?

Cajun seasoning is a blend of spices that comes from Louisianna. It comes from its French-speaking Acadian descendants and has roots in African and Native American cuisine.

It is thought to be extremely spicy, but the heat level can vary. It usually contains paprika, garlic, cayenne, pepper, and oregano, with various other spices added depending on the area of influence.

Since everyone has their own preference, making your own blend is the perfect way to dial in your family's taste.

My Cajun Seasoning Blend contains:
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • White pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Cayenne

HOW TO USE HOMEMADE CAJUN SEASONING

This Homemade Cajun Seasoning Recipe is one of hubby's faves.

He asks for it on literally everything!

Some of the things you can make with it are:

Proteins: Fish, shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, and even tofu. Things like this sheetpan pork chop dinner are super easy with the bonus of quick cleanup too (low carb peeps can sub cauliflower for the potatoes)! Season a beef roast (1 tablespoon per pound) and cook it up in the Instant Pot for another quick and delicious weeknight dinner.

Veggies: My favorite way to use this, or any other seasoning blend, is to sprinkle it on veggies and roast them YUM!!

Crackers and Chips: Use your favorite low carb cracker or chip recipe and sprinkle them with this seasoning blend before baking to give them that little extra something.

Sauces: My favorite sauce to use this in is Alfredo, but it would be a great way to add some zip to a tomato sauce for a Cajun pasta or pizza.

Dips: Have a low carb hummus recipe you love? Add a bit of this seasoning to zing it up. You could even add it to this Cheesy Artichoke Crab Dip or guacamole. If you are allergic to avocado like me you can use this Avocado Free Guacamole recipe.

Here are a few more great recipes I suggest trying.
