Oh Hiiii there How are you doing today?
Me?
Well, temps have finally dropped low enough that it was 65 in my house this morning. So I decided it was time to light the first fire of the season. That might sound like something small, but for some reason it is a big deal around here. Maybe it is because I live with a modern day caveman. He loves, luvssssss, lurrrrrvs fire. Building fire, cooking over fire, sitting by the fire pit in the rain.....yup he does that #strangeman
Anywhoo, he is usually the one that lights the first fire. But I decided to step up to the plate. I wanted to be the big dog aarroooooooo So I got my fire all prepped.
Paper
Egg crate
Small pieces of wood
Bigger pieces of wood
I stood back and admired my handy work. It was pretty ding dang good if I do say so myself!
I got the lighter and lit that baby up.
Now, I should probably explain to you that we have a fireplace insert, so it is kinda like a wood stove inside a fireplace. It has two doors on the front, with little dials on them you open and close to adjust the air flow through the stove.
OK, so I lit the fire and then realized that the cast iron kettle we use as a humidifier on top of the stove was empty. I grabbed it real quick, before it could get screaming hot, and ran off to the kitchen to fill it up.
Mind you, I left the doors to the stove open.
Uhhh yaaaaaa, not the smartest thing I have ever done.
All of a sudden I hear beeep beeep beeep FIRE FIRE FIRE beeep beeep beeep (yes my smoke detector is suuuuuper annoying).
I hustled my butt back to the living room in time to see smoke billowing into the room because DUH with the doors wide open there was no draw in the stove to suck the smoke up the chimney. Nope, it just decided to puke it all into my living room.
Oh joyyyy!
So now I am running around putting the kettle in place, closing the doors, and adjusting the dials, and looking for my step stool so I could SHUT THAT DAMN SMOKE DETECTOR OFF The batteries of said smoke detector may or may not have flown across the dining room #dontjudge
After opening the windows for a bit the smoke cleared out, and I could safely return the smoke detector to is correct place (after I retrieved the batteries from under the table).
While I was waiting for the smoke to clear, I went out to my garden to check out my veggie babies. With the weird dry and late summer, I still have tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini growing like crazy. Usually by now it has been too rainy, so the veg gets all yucky and moldy
On this particular day I had several gorgeous zucchini ready and waiting to be picked and devoured. So I brought them in and proceeded to make Zummus, Zucchini Fritters, and sauted zucchini with tomatoes, and onions.
In other words I went zucchini bananas!! Which made me think that you all might still be enjoying these tender green babies.
I mean everyone is all about the butternut, spaghetti, and pumpkin. While zucchini is over here going "Haaaayyyyy what about me?".
So here you go, 14 of the best recipes out there to give your zucchini some love!
Enjoy
